These impressions were taken from one of WAs most iconic sights “Boulder rock” or Midgegooroo national park. I love this place, it’s peaceful and has a real unusual atmosphere to it, slightly eerie vibe and I often wonder what happened there.
The site was declared as an Aboriginal ceremonial place for “men’s business” and is now an environmentally protected zone due to its proximity to the canning river.
Boulder rock cant be accessed by car but the short hike through the bush from the main road is worth it as you stumble upon its huge granite rock formations that take the breath away. One huge egg shaped boulder sits awkwardly balanced on its tip at the highest point of the site. Just incredible to witness. We have been to the site many times over the years to watch the night sky and the Aurora Australis.
I am lucky enough to live in Gaada-moorn-da katamunda and only 15 minutes away from this sacred site.
I explored this region at the beginning of this year and took clay stamp samples of the beautiful ridges and rock formations, creating impressions of this place. I then, over the span of about 6 months began creating tiles of these magnificent forms as part of a large tiled wall project for my home. Each tile was pit fired in my garden leaving a beautiful black lick of smoke to each one while also exposing the natural body of clay.
I now have completed my project and will have a few of these framed wall hangings of boulder rocks impressions for sale.
You can pre order these by messaging me if you would like a part of WAs history and beautiful nature as part of your space.
