Ceramics and nature course
Come and find the connection between nature and ceramics with this three week workshop. Where we will explore, in nature wild clay textures and mindful moments to help us connect with place and ourselves.
We will write and design in our journals our process of creating, being present and inspired.
Back in the studio we learn simple hand building techniques to create textured pieces that bring us back to the natural world. Then we gather round fire to experience simple wood firing techniques to fire your pieces.
Week one will focus on exploring natural materials and inspiration. We will sit in mindful moments with breath work, meditation and journaling to help us connect with ourselves, to this place down by the river. Finding a practice in letting go of attachment and bringing yourself to the present moment.
On our field trip we will collect wild clay and other natural materials to explore with back In the studio. Here we will learn about processing wild clay slips and start experimenting with hand-building techniques.
Week two we delve into the world of textures with our foraged plants and materials to create natural slips and learn about different hand-building techniques like coiling and pinching.
Week three we will gather together to build the pit fire where we will enjoy soup on the fire, mindfulness activities and good conversations. I will also be reading from my book 108 cups a journal.
The following morning we can circle around the pit to unravel everyone’s work for you to take home. Or we can arrange postage for your pieces.
Throughout the course, you'd have the opportunity to experiment, play, learn, write and connect with each other and at the end, you'd have a collection of unique ceramic pieces that reflect your connection to nature and a mindful record of your journey.
